Check a transformer with its turns ratio

An ideal transformer has 600 primary turns and 120 secondary turns. The input is 240 V RMS and the secondary feeds a 12 Ω resistor. Find its secondary current.

Check your answer

The voltage ratio is 120 / 600 = 0.2, so the secondary voltage is 48 V RMS. The resistor draws 48 / 12 = 4 A RMS. Output power is 192 W; the ideal primary current is 192 / 240 = 0.8 A.
